| Holiday Event 2006 |
The Canton Association of Industries celebrated the holidays in style on December 13 th at the new offices of One Beacon Insurance Company at 150 Royall Street. The grand first-floor lobby was festively decorated, and members were welcomed with hot hors d’oeuvres and an open bar.
The event was well attended with members and their guests, along with Senator Brian Joyce and Representative Bill Galvin. Chairman Roger Pritzker was on hand to present the yearly awards and certificates of appreciation.
The Reebok Company was honored with the CAI Corporate Business of the Year award for their outstanding commitment and assistance in organizing the 2 nd Annual Reebok Canton Homecoming Road Race. Although Paul Foster of Reebok Corporation was unable to attend, he was warmly thanked as a prime supporter. Proceeds from this year’s race totaled more than $36,000. Pritzker noted that “the CAI always tries to give a lot of money back to the community,” Successful fundraising helps to increase scholarships and charitable donations as a way to make Canton a better community for both business and residents.
John Ferrari of One Beacon Insurance Company was presented with a CAI Appreciation Award and an elegant Paul Revere bowl in gratitude for hosting the event. Pritzker thanked Ferrari for his assistance in coordinating the evening, especially since One Beacon had only been in their new location for a week.
Appreciation Awards were also presented by Nancy White to Michael Miller, the CEO of One Beacon, and Claire LeSage for her hard work in organizing the Canton Reebok Homecoming Road Race.
Crosby Goshgarian, Founder and Director of the Canton Choral Society, was presented with a donation and an Appreciation Award in thanks for his service and for providing the evening’s entertainment of holiday songs together with his talented chorus.
Katherine Touafek of the Schools to Career Partnership introduced Kara Scozzari and Kevin Ward, two Canton High School students who were awarded CAI scholarships to participate in the week-long educational program this past summer. The multi-town initiative brought students directly to local businesses to learn about leadership opportunities in both the private and public sectors.
Scozzari and Ward were honored to be nominated for the program by Ed Amico, guidance counselor at CHS, and were especially thankful to the CAI for their financial support. “The best thing was to meet kids from different towns,” said Ward, “and to make business connections.”
The Massachusetts Hospital School was presented a major donation of $10,000 raised by the Homecoming Road Race in recognition of the important work they do in the community.
In addition to the unwrapped toys donated by all of the attending members, Pritzker made a holiday donation to Dr. William Sullivan, Paul Schneiders, Edward Gilmore and Mary Jane Magan to assist in their charitable work for the town’s need families through St. Vincent de Paul and Secret Santa.
The last presentation was a surprise raffle of a “Romantic Getaway” for two at the Seaport Hotel in Boston. Lucky winner Tony Zulkeski of Diversified Project Management said, “All I need now is someone to go with!”

CAI hosts golf outing
By Amy Guerrero
An annual tradition continued on Monday, June 21, when the Canton Association of Industries hosted its 2004 "Spring Into Summer," golf outing at the Milton Hoosic Club on Green Lodge Street.
A sparkling, picture-perfect day and the rolling green hills of the club provided the backdrop for the late afternoon event. After playing nine holes of golf, the 40 CAI members participating adjourned to the clubhouse for delicious hot and cold hors d'oeuvres and cold drinks.
"This is the second time we've done this nine-hole event," CAI President Tom Clark, head of Phoenix Electric in Canton, said. "Previously we did an 18-hole all-day event that was our major fundraiser."
CAI's major annual fundraiser has become a dinner-dance and auction in October at Lantana's in Randolph. The golfing event has become a primarily social event bringing together some town officials and business heads, Clark said.
"It's a social, fun afternoon," Clark said. "It's an opportunity for all members to get out and meet each other and provides an opportunity for some dialogue with the town officials."
Town officials attending the event included Selectman John Connolly, Police Chief Peter Bright and Recreation Director Jeff
Kaylor. "It's always great to get together with CAI members and town officials and mix business with pleasure," Connolly said near the ninth hole.
Toward the end of the event, Clark presented Kaylor with a $1,000 check.
CAI gives the money annually to help defray the town's cost for July 4 fireworks and the accompanying celebration.
"It's beautiful weather and a lot of good friends," Canton attorney Brian Mahoney said as he wrapped up his round of golf.
Jeannette Arlock, business development officer of Randolph Savings Bank and CAI board member who coordinated the afternoon event, said it went off without a hitch.
"It's just a fun time to get together," she said.
Charlie Clay of Baypromo of Canton, and Debby Kreusch of the Canton Cooperative Bank, won top honors for their golfing prowess.
Businesses sponsoring teams at the event included Cumberland Farms, Phoenix Electric, Emerson & Cumming, Road to Responsibility, Canton Co-Operative Bank, Frank Lamparelli Oil, Rockland Trust, Vollmer Associates, Brian Mahoney, Allied Bolt and Screw, Empire Engineering, Carlson Wagonlit Travel and Reebok.
Reebok provided each golfer with a "sleeve" of three golf balls. Golf tees were provided by MC Embossing. |
